Happy Birthday Hello Kitty!

This girl will turn 50 years old on November 1st and for this occasion I decided to dress her up.

Both these dolls are completely hand-made, with different kind of fabrics: many parts are made with chirimen (Japanese crêpe), some with Japanese cotton and others with silk or kimono scraps.

The first Kitty is wearing a furisode, the long-sleeved kimono reserved for unmarried girls, with the obi tied in a bunko musubi, while the second is wearing hakama, a sort of pleated pants worn over kimono, in an outfit peculiar to graduation ceremonies.

All their parts are hand-sewn and they are one-of-a-kind.

These are not dolls intended to be toys, but they are pieces meant for display and collection (as kokeshi dolls).
