Miyako Odori kanzashi

This tsumami kanzashi is inspired by Miyako Odori, a show that takes place every spring in Kyoto, at Kaburenjo theatre in the Gion district.

Every maiko and geiko of the area dance together showing different sceneries which talk about the passing of the seasons.

The kanzashi has been designed using the decorative motifs of the kimono worn during this event, with the addition of a water stream inspired by Kamo river and a typical lantern of Gion.
It is made with silk crepe dyed, modeled and decorated by hand.

Kanzashi is a long hairpin with two prongs that is usually pinned on an up-do.

This accessory is made entirely by hand. It needs to be worn and handled with care.
