MOMOmi Kitsune No Yomeiri
200,00 €
In the history of Japan, a lot of natural phenomena were explained through the existence of kami (natural deities) or other magic beings.
One of these is the fox’s wedding (kitsune no yomeiri): sometimes in the deep of the forest, for a refraction effect, some lights have been seen moving, one behind the other.
The placement of these lights recalled the lanterns in line during the procession before a wedding, when, in antiquity, the bride was escorted in a parade to the groom’s house.
Since when people came closer, the glow disappeared, they believed there were foxes (kitsune) behind this, which lured them in the woods with a ceremony, for spite or for fun.
The pieces of art that have been made with this theme always attracted me, so I decided to make this fox dolls couple, dressed in traditional wedding kimono: white silk kakeshita with red details for her, striped hakama and black formal set of kimono and haori for him.
Since her headdress (wataboshi) is a removable element, you can choose if keeping it (glued or not) or not having it, writing it in an e-mail or at the check-out.
The two dolls arrive with a black wooden base.
These are not dolls intended to be toys but they are pieces meant for display and collection (as kokeshi dolls).
